One of the Big Five game animals, the Cape Buffalo is a herd animal that has never been domesticated. Otherwise known as the ‘black death’ or ‘dugga boy’, it is renowned for its aggression and temper. The buffalo’s nature is unpredictable and they are considered dangerous to people. They have unusual curved horns; the bases of each fuse together forming a shield across the forehead called a ‘boss’. Unsurprisingly, they have few predators.

Hamish has created another striking study of this impressive animal. His bronze Cape Buffalo Head 2017 sculpture brings us face to face with the impressive horns, flared nostrils and steely glare of this extraordinary animal. Buffalo are often covered in mud and have a well-worn aspect to their general appearance. Hamish has captured this with loose textured modelling of a grogged clay.

For anybody interested in African wildlife, this limited edition sculpture would make a very special gift.
